Abstract
946,627. Rectifying; control of D.C. motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 17, 1962 [Nov. 24, 1961], No. 42126/61. Headings H2F and H2J. A D.C. motor 1 is controlled over a highspeed range by an A.C. regulator 2 associated with a bridge rectifier comprising both diodes 3-8 and silicon controlled rectifiers 9-11, the latter being free-firing over this range. When the regulator 2 is adjusted to its minimum value, a unit 12 becomes effective to set the firing angles of rectifiers 9-11 for control over a lower range of speeds. If a high voltage is applied to the rectifiers 9-11 when they are under the control of unit 12, Zener diodes 13- 15 break down to cause the silicon controlled rectifiers to beome free-firing. Diodes 16-18 prevent the development of high peak inverse voltages across the rectifiers 9-11. The regulator 2 may be an induction regulator or other variable transformer.
