1,11 - (1,1 - Dimethylethylene) - 2,21 -dipyridylium dibromide is prepared by heating 2,21 - dipyridyl with 1,2 - dibromo - 2 - methylpropane at 130 DEG C. 1,11 - (1,2 - Dimethylethylene) - 2,21 -dipyridylium dibromide is similarly prepared from 2,3-dibromo-butane.
