Abstract

946,451. Boring earth &c. NIPPON SHARYO SEIZO KAISHA Ltd. May 23, 1960 [May 25, 1959], No. 18164/60. Heading E1F. A "down the hole" boring tool comprises a body 10 housing a reciprocating driving hammer 111, a reciprocatory extracting hammer 131 and vibrators 12. The hammers and vibrators are actuated by air supplied through hoses 151, - 153 and exhausted through hose 154. Water supplied through a hose 155 is discharged through apertures 102 and passes along grooves 106. The tool is lowered into position through one or more guides 6 (Fig. 3) by a rope 5. The boring action of the hammer 111 and the vibrators is supplemented by the pull of cables 73 on a yoke 7 which engages a groove 142 in the tool body. After the tool has been sunk to the position shown in Fig. 7, two members 8 are clamped about the head of the tool, the yoke is fitted to the top of the members, and boring is continued. Additional pairs of members are fitted until the hole is of the required depth, the tool and members then being removed from the hole by the action of the hammer 131 and vibrators which may be supplemented by a pull on the yoke. In a modified tool the nose impacted by the hammer 111 is slidable relative the tool body. Pairs of the members 8 may be replaced by a perforated tube containing hoses adapted to be joined to the hoses of adjacent section or the tool. During withdrawal of the members and tool a slurry may be supplied from the holes 102 to line the hole.
