Abstract

945,975. Multiplication devices. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 22, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14404/59. Heading G4A. A multiplication device comprises means for simultaneously producing all the partial products of the several orders of the multiplier and multiplicand and means for simultaneously accumulating the partial products of like digital orders. The multiplicand and multiplier are entered into binary registers MD, MR, output conductors MDW, MRW of which form a cross wire diagonal matrix MX. At each cross-point, Fig. 2, connection is made through resistors MDR, MRR and a diode RC to a vertical wire VW. When both register elements connected to a cross point contain '1' a signal is applied to wire VW representative of the partial product '1'. Each vertical wire VW feeds a current summing device CA, each of which supplies a corresponding voltage to an analogue-to-digital converter ADC. Each converter may be of the type described in Specification 934,480 and shown schematically in Fig. 3. The applied voltage V deflects a beam on to one of targets 0-7. The targets are connected in series with corresponding binary combinations of transformer primaries. The secondaries feed output terminals A, B, C. Terminal A is connected to the corresponding digital output terminal DOD (2N-1) while B and C are connected to the analogue-to-digital converters ADC of one and two places higher order, respectively.
