Abstract

945,561. Compressor blades. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. April 24, 1962 [April 27, 1961], No. 15314/61. Heading FIT. An axial flow compressor rotor or stator blade formed of a thermosetting resinous material reinforced with fibres which extend spanwise for the full length of the blade, comprises an aerofoil portion and a root portion having a strengthening insert lying in a chordwise sence and being curved so that it lies substantially parallel to the mean profile camber line of the aerofoil portion along its whole length. Each blade 17 is formed from material such as glass or asbestos fibres impregnated with a phenolic or an epoxy resin. The root 17b is of dovetail shape retained axially on the rotor disc 16 by a resin lug 20 and a metal tab 21 having flanges 21a, 21b. A curved insert 22 of resinous material or metal having a triangular cross-section strengthens the root 17b. The fibres 24 of the blade material extend the full length of the blade 17 and enclose the insert 22. The root 17b is built up with pads 25 of resin material.
