Abstract

945,297. Spring suspensions. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 24, 1960 [July 6, 1959], No. 23117/59. Heading B7D. A vehicle suspension system in which a ground wheel 9 is connected to the chassis 14 by upper and lower swinging legs 10, 11 has a deformable rubber spring 3 pivotally connected to the links at points 16, 15 at different distances from the chassis pivots 12, 13. The spring 3 is compressed between a flange 5 on a rod 4 and a flange 6 on a housing 2 so that the suspension will "fail-safe." Alternatively, the spring may be in tension. The links are parallel in the static position of the suspension. Dimensions of a typical design are given in the Specification.
