Abstract
945,146. Automatic gas analysis. K.LADENDORF, E. LADENDORF,W. LADENDORF, P.LADENDORF, E. LADENDORF, and K. F. LADENDORF. March 17,1960 [March 20,1959], No. 9456/60. Headings G1A,G1B and G1N. A trace gas in a carrier gas is automatically estimated in accordance with a control programme which comprises (i) supplying a predetermined volume of a liquid absorbing the trace gas to a test vessel, (ii) passing the gas at constant flow rate through the liquid in said vessel or an absorption chamber from which the liquid with absorbed gas therein subsequently flows to said test vessel, (iii) making a test upon the liquid in said test vessel, (iv) discharging the liquid from said test vessel. In the preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the carrier gas containing the trace gas enters line 10 attached to a device 11 for maintaining constant flow and passes through flowmeter 12 before passing into the absorbing liquid at 26. The test vessel 14 is filled from vessel 17 and device 18 for introducing a predetermined amount of the liquid, and contact of liquid with the gas takes place in spiral tube 27, stripped carrier gas leaving at 29 while the liquid with absorbed gas passes back into vessel 14. A photo-electric system 24, 25 is provided. The absorption vessel may be emptied through line 22 after the estimation has been made and then rinsed and washed by means of liquid in vessel 16. The various operations referred to above are performed in sequence by operating the valves 13,15,19, 20 and 23 and the indicating system by means of programming cam drum. In Fig. 1 (not shown) coil 27 is omitted and the gas enters directly into vessel 14. The measurement may be made using electrodes or photo-electric methods e.g. by determining depth of colour,pH, redox potential or conductivity by pulse count or R-C measurement.
