Abstract

945,104. Measuring electrically; meteorological instruments. O. D. COLVIN. Sept. 7, 1961 [Sept. 27, 1960], No. 32111/61. Headings G1N and G1X The approach of condensation, and possibly icing, conditions in a Venturi in e.g. the carburettor of an I.C. engine, in, for instance, an aircraft, is indicated by sensing the dry bulb temperature in the Venturi, sensing the dewpoint temperature of the air in the vicinity of the Venturi, and indicating both temperatures on a common scale. As shown, the dewpoint temperature of the air entering the Venturi 11 of a carburettor 10 via a conduit 14 is sensed by a device 24, e.g. of the kind described in U.S.A. Specification 2, 359, 278, the electrical output of device 24 being linearized at 25 to deflect a pointer 26 angularly about a pivot axis 23 to indicate the dewpoint temperature on a calibrated scale 21. The dry bulb temperature at the throat of the Venturi 11 is measured by a thermistor 15, or by a thermocouple, the signal so produced being used to deflect a pointer 22, also pivoted on axis 23, over scale 21. The pointers 22,26 bear flags 22a, 30, suitably coloured to give visual indication of the imminence of condensation conditions, and the juxtaposition of the flags may be arranged to operate visual and/or audible warning devices 35, 36, and, if desired, heating means 34 for reducing the dewpoint of the air entering the Venturi. Heating means 34 may alternatively be manually operated by handle 33.
