Abstract

The hemi-fumarate, fumarate and di-fumarate of beta-(2-pyridyl)-ethyl methyl amine are prepared by dissolving the amine in isopropyl alcohol and adding appropriate proportions of fumaric acid. They are used medicinally for combating vascular headache.ALSO:An oral, rectal or parenteral preparation for the treatment of vascular headache comprises a beta-(2- or 4-pyridylalkyl) amine, especially of the formula <FORM:0945095/A5-A6/1> in which Py is pyridyl attached to the radical R by its 2- or 4-carbon atom, R represents an alkyl group containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms and R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl, ethyl or propyl radical; or a physiologically tolerable acid addition salt of the amine, in admixture or p conjunction with a pharmaceutically suitable carrier other than water alone. Typical amines are b -(2-pyridyl)-ethyl methyl amine, b -(2-pyridyl)-ethylamine and 1-(2-pyridyl)-2-methylamino propane; the preferred acid addition salts being the hydrochloride and fumarate (see Division C2). The preparations may take the form of powders (diluted with lactose), tablets, capsules, suppositories (cocoa butter base) and aqueous injections of physiological salt solution.
