Abstract

944,720. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems; automatic speed control systems. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI, ACEC. Nov. 9,1960 [Nov. 13, 1959], No. 38483/60. Headings G3P and G3R. [Also in Division F1] In a power unit comprising one or more electric motors supplied by a generator driven by an engine, the field currents of the generator and motor are controlled by means responsive to the difference between the actual engine speed and the desired speed for any setting of the fuel control member. An accelerator pedal 1 actuates through a hydraulic system 2 on a spring loaded piston 3 which operates a fuel control lever 6 having a cam profile calculated to produce a desired engine speed for any position of the lever. The piston rod is resiliently connected to a servo valve 12 by a spring 8, the valve being operated by a diaphragm 14 actuated by the suction at the inlet of the generator cooling fan which is a measure of engine speed. At equilibrium the force of the spring 8 counterbalances the suction on the diaphragm 14. If the pedal is operated to move the lever 6 to a reduced delivery position, the force of spring 8 is reduced and valve 12 moves to the right to open ports 17, whereby pressure fluid from reservoir 16 operates a bellows 18 to vary the field resistances 22, 24 of the generator and motor to reduce the generator speed to that defined by cam 6, whereby the valve 12 is returned to its equilibrium position. The generator resistance 22 is reduced to its minimum value before any increase is made in the motor resistance 24. Similarly if pedal 1 is depressed to increase the delivery, valve 12 moves to the left to correct bellows 18 to atmosphere and increase the generator speed.
