Abstract
A continuous process for the production of melamine comprises heating urea in the presence of ammonia in a fluidised bed of inert solid particles so that the urea decomposes and passing the resulting gases together with the ammonia gas through one or more catalyst beds, thus forming melamine. The catalyst is preferably in a fluidised state. Specified inert solids are sand, carborandum and corundum. Examples are given, using as catalysts (1) silica gel grains and (2) aluminum phosphate.
