A camera tripod with platform 2 to which are hinged legs 3, 4, 5 has weights 6, 7, 8 near the outer ends of the legs, the legs being movable into a horizontal plane so that when the support is then held in the hand by a handle 9 it has a high moment of inertia about three mutually perpendicular axes. The handle 9 is secured to platform 2 by a ball and socket or other universal joint.
