[Also in Division F1] The safety harness of a motor vehicle, which may be a belt, harness or a pair of arms which embraces the occupant, comprises a buckle which includes the poles of an electric switch in a circuit including an electromagnet which operates a safety device, e.g. a detent for preventing the gear lever, brake or ignition key from being operated unless the buckle of the device is fastened whereby the electromagnet is energized and the detent withdrawn. The detent may be in the form of a locking device engaging the ignition key, gear or brake lever, or in the form of a cover plate preventing the insertion of the ignition key and means may be provided whereby the circuit is broken and the device becomes inoperative after the vehicle has been started. The circuit may include seat switches rendering the device inoperative unless the seat is occupied.
