943,901. Toe lasting machines. ZAVODY PRESNEHO STROJIRENSTIVI GOTTWALDOV, NARODNI PODNIK. Aug. 8, 1960 [Sept. 1, 1959], No. 27359/60. Heading A3B. In a toe lasting machine having two operating positions a shoe 8 on a Fast is arranged in the lower position, the upper margins are gripped, the shoe is raised to stretch the upper which is then clamped around the toe, the grippers 3 are released, the shoe and clamping means 11 are raised and reversed so as to present the shoe bottom upwards in the upper position, adhesive is injected along the periphery of the insole, and the upper margins are wiped inwardly. The shoe remains in this position while a second shoe is arranged in the lower position, then the clamp is released and the shoe removed and finally the clamp is returned to its initial position by operation of lever 44. Grippers 3 are actuated by knee-operated lever 4, and piston 5 which raises the shoe to stretch the upper is actuated by hand lever 6. Clamping member 11 is operated to clamp or release the shoe by the piston of a hydraulic cylinder which moves forwardly or rearwardly a pivoted balancing beam 15 connected at its ends to the ends of the member 11. The clamping member may be replaced for use with shoes of unsymmetrical shape. The appartus includes a toe support 26 adjusted by means of screw 27 (not shown) and a spring loaded heel support 7. The clamping head 12 carrying the clamping member 11 is mounted on a spindle 27 which has grooves 31 and gearing 30 and is rotatable in a member 29 (not shown). The latter is moved heightwise, by a piston 43 (not shown), in a guide 32 having rails 34, 35, and a rack 36. Portions 38, 40, and 37, 39 of the rails fit the grooves 31 and permit the spindle to move heightwise but prevent rotation, but as the spindle moves through the portion 41, 42 rotation is permitted and is brought about by engagement of gearing 30 with rack 36. The shoe is thus presented, bottom upwards to the adhesive applicator 46 and the wipers 45.
