Abstract
943,570. Typewriters. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. Jan. 2, 1962 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 165/62. Heading B6F. [Also in Division G4] Three embodiments are described relating to key constructions for a ten-key adding machine. In the first, the key shank blanks 20 are of identical construction for all keys and have three stems 17 to 19, one of which is secured to a key button and the other two are located in recesses in key buttons of such size that these buttons can be depressed without depressing the key shank. The zero key 15 is secured to all three stems. In this embodiment three types of key button are required exemplified by the 0, 1 and 2 keys of Fig. 1. Ears 27 on the shank are guided in slots 26 and there are two downward projections, 22 for depressing a pin on the carriage 11 and 21 for releasing the carriage to the next order of pins. In the second embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7, there are three kinds of key shank, 42 as the first embodiment, 44 having a central stem 41 and 45 having a stem 48 to one side of centre. All the non-zero digit key buttons are identical in construction and have three slots 36 of which one receives the stem of the appropriate shank. In the third embodiment two kinds of key button are used having only one slot (Fig. 8, not shown) either in the centre or to one side of centre.
