Abstract

942,673. Magnetic films. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS & TABULATORS Ltd. June 3, 1960 [June 8, 1959], No. 19491/59. Heading B6G. [Also m Division H1] A plurality of discrete magnetic film elements each having substantially uniform characteristics is produced by evaporating a magnetic material in vacuo and depositing the evaporated material on to a support under the influence of a magnetic field to produce a thin film of anisotropic magnetic material having substantially uniform characteristics over its entire area, applying a resist mask to those areas to form the discrete elements, and etching away the unprotected areas of the deposit. The support may be aluminium with nitric acid as etching fluid. In other cases, such as a nickel-iron alloy deposited on a glass support, ferric chloride may be used as etching agent. The resist may be an oil-based ink or a photographic resist. Specifications 880,383 and 942,549 are referred to.
