Abstract

A soil improvement composition comprises 0.3-9 parts of methyl bromide to 9 parts of propargyl bromide. The composition may be mixed with solid or liquid carriers, emulsifying agents, or dispersing agents.ALSO:A fumigant composition for controlling soil-dwelling parasites comprises 0.3 to 9 parts of methyl bromide to 9 parts of propargyl bromide. The composition may be admixed with solid or liquid carriers, emulsifying agents or dispersing agents to give gaseous, liquid, granular, aqueous dispersion, aqueous emulsion or dust compositions. Specified liquid carriers are xylenes, naphthas, hydrocarbon mixtures derived from the distillation of petroleum and coal, acetone, carbon tetrachloride and ethylene dichloride. Specified surface-active agents are polyoxyalkylene derivatives of alcohols, phenols and organic acids, oil-soluble petroleum sulphonates and poloxyethylene derivatives of glycerols and glycols, dimeric alkylated aryl polyether alcohols and alkylaryl sulphonates.ALSO:Grain is fumigated by treatment with a composition comprising between 0.3 and 9 parts of methyl bromide and 9 parts of propargyl bromide. The composition may be mixed with powdered solid or liquid carriers, including water, and emulsifying or dispersing agents may be added.
