Abstract

Waste paper is unravelled dry but only to the extent in which it consists substantially of a material in which the individual fibres are not unravelled from one another be remain as fibre clusters, and wetted immediately afterwards to a dry content of 20-30% so that there results a finely crumbled flowable material that can be further diluted with water. If the unravelling is carried out in a disc refiner the water may be injected into the refiner so that it wets the material after it has left the milling zone, but before it leaves the casing of the refiner. If the unravelling is carried out in a cross-beater mill, the material may then be wetted in a disc mill having the distance between its teeth or pegs great enough to avoid further mechanical grinding.
