A composite play set comprises two or more bases and a plurality of flat individual blocks, having simple geometric shapes in plan and each having a peg or pegs on the underside thereof, the pegs being adapted to fit retentively under pressure into apertures provided in the bases whereby the blocks can be arranged to form a picture or the like, at least one of the blocks has two or more pegs and some of the apertures in the bases are so disposed that two or more of the bases can be connected together side-by-side by arranging the one block with one or more of its pegs in one or more apertures of each base. The bases 10 have rows of equally-spaced apertures 11, the apertures in each end row being spaced half the distance between the centres of two apertures from the edge of the base so that a block 17 with at least two pegs can unite two bases. The sides of the blocks have lengths which are the distance between two apertures and multiples thereof. The blocks may be bisected to produce oblong or triangular shaped heads. The pegs may be hollow or solid, cylindrical, conical or prismatic, the apertures being correspondingly shaped. The bases may be made of washable plastics material which is more resilient than the blocks. The bases are reinforced by spaced ribs 12. To eject the blocks from the apertures cylindrical and squaresectioned headed sticks are provided.
