941,506. Vinyl chloride polymers. SOLVAY ET CIE. March 9, 1962 [March 21, 1961], No. 9123/62. Heading C3P. Vinyl chloride alone or with another copolymerisable monomer is polymerized in aqueous medium in the presence of a water-soluble freeradical catalyst by a process comprising a first stage of commencing polymerisation in the absence of emulsifier and a second stage of completing polymerisation with continuous addition of emulsifier, the second stage taking place at a lower temperature than the first. Catalyst exemplified is ammonium persulphate, and as emulsifier sodium lauryl sulphate. The latices therefrom are very suitable to make plastisols.
