Abstract

941,397. Laminates. FORMICA CORPORATION. Feb. 23, 1962, No. 7225/62. Heading B5N. Resin-bonded laminates are made by superposing sheets of resin-impregnated paper to form stacks of, for example, six or seven sheets, piling at least two of the stacks with an interposed sheet, or interposed sheets, of paper coated on one side only with a salt of alginic acid such as sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium or iron alginate, curing the pile under heat and pressure, and dividing it into separate laminates at the point or points of insertion of the coated paper, the latter adhering to the laminate on its uncoated side. Two coated papers, placed coated sides in contact, may be used. Each stack, when they are treated in pairs, may have a decorative resin-impregnated sheet or sheets on its outer face. The resin used for the stacks may be phenol - aldehyde, and that for the decorative sheets may be melamine-aldehyde, benzoguanamine-aldehyde, or unsaturated polyester.
