A vehicle 17, Fig. 2, having pallet-supporting guides 56, 57 has load-lifting arms 43 and means to align the arms with the guides. As described, the two arms 43 are interconnected by a bar 41 and are hydraulically raised and lowered by inner masts 34 which slide within outer masts 24. The arms 43 may be hinged inwardly about a vertical axis when not in use and lowered to rest on brackets 52. An outer portion of each arm 43 may be swung outwardly about a vertical pivot to facilitate removal or loading of a pallet. Rollers are provided on the arms 43 and the guides 56, 57 so that pallets may be easily moved into the vehicle. Movable partitions 64 prevent the load moving when the vehicle is not completely filled and are held in position by latches 63 which engage holes in the guides 56, 57. Pivotally mounted stop members 69, 71 are swung out to arrest the arms 43 in alignment with guides 56, 57. In a second embodiment, instead of the inner and outer masts being connected to the piston and cylinder of an hydraulic ram, opposite ends of a chain 85, Fig. 9, are connected to the bottom ends of the inner and outer masts at 87 and 86 respectively. The chain passes over a sprocket 84 mounted on the piston-rod 83 of an hydraulic ram, extension of which raises the inner mast and the arms 43 connected thereto. Specification 925,740 is referred to.
