Abstract
940,110. Supporting magnetic recording &c. heads. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. June 1, 1962 [June 20, 1961], No. 21241/62. Heading G5R. A head 15 is mounted in a carrier 18 of inverted lifting airfoil section relative to a magnetic drum or other shape record 10, the air rotating anticlockwise with the drum dragging the carrier away from a stop 32 against the influence of a spring 30 by the Bernouilli effect until the aircushion entrapped between the point B on the airfoil and the drum-surface 14 produces a balancing force adapted, in terms of the airfoil section and drum-speed, to maintain a desired drum/head spacing. The spring means 30 renders the system fail-safe should the drum slow down.
