The invention provides an apparatus for detecting the arrival of a carrier, for example, of a conveyer of the floor track type - at a certain position and for producing a control signal upon such arrival. The carrier is provided with a non-energized resonant pick-up circuit which, when the carrier is at the selected position, lies directly above an energized coil detector. The resultant coupling between the pick-up and the detector causes the detector to produce a control signal. To increase the number of different arrival points, the resonant frequency of the pick-up and detector is variable, and the position of these units relative to the track is also variable. Further, more than one detector may be required to detect the presence of a pick-up before a control signal is produced. Such detection may be simultaneous or sequential.
