Abstract
939,028. Electron beam apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. May 16, 1961 [Oct. 21, 1960], No. 36242/60. Class 39 (1). A cathode-ray tube is provided with an axial magnetic focusing field and an auxiliary deflection system 3 situated between the source 1 of the electron beam and the scanning system 4. The auxiliary deflection is at right-angles to the scanning deflection and is such that electrons travel in the direction of the resultant field of the focusing and scanning systems and thus follow straight rather than cycloidal paths. The tube may be a television camera of the image orthicon or vidicon type and may be provided with a further deflecting system 5 producing a force equal and opposite to that of system 3 so that electrons impinge normally on target 2. As shown, the coils 3, 4, 5 are connected in series, but shunt variable impedances may be provided for individually adjusting the coil currents. Coil 3 may also serve as an alignment coil.
