Abstract
938,653. Sewing. S. MARLEY. July 9, 1962 [Aug. 8, 1961], No. 26310/62. Class 112. [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] Apparatus for re-positioning pulled loops in knitted fabric comprises a rotary workengaging element, the direction of rotation of which is adapted to be changed by means of a foot-operated mechanism. As shown, an elongated blade 37 having a pointed, workengaging end 45 is pivoted at 36 adjacent its other end eccentrically on a rotary hub 32 journalled in a handle 25, and a slot 43 formed in blade 37 slidably engages a pin 44 rigid with handle 25. End 45 thereby moves in an elliptical path when hub 32 is rotated, via a flexible drive shaft 11, by a motor 12 mounted in a casing 64. The direction of rotation of motor 12 may be changed by actuation of a foot-operated switch 20 comprising a pivoted pedal 82 spring-biased to the raised position. Partial depression of pedal 82 shifts a switch blade 73, rigid therewith, into engagement with a fixed contact 90, and full depression of pedal 82 engages blade 73 with a fixed contact 93. The motor has opposed pairs of stator windings 101, 102, interconnected by a lead 105, and 103, 104 interconnected by a lead 106. Contacts 90 and 93 are respectively connected to coils 101 and 103 by respective leads 91 and 94. A capacitor 67 is shunted between leads 91 and 94. The arrangement is thereby such that when blade 73 engages contact 90 coils 101 and 102 are connected directly to the mains, and coils 103, 104 are connected to the mains via capacitor 67. The motor then runs in one direction. When blade 73 engages contact 93, coils 103 and 105 are connected directly to the mains, and coils 101, 102 are connected to the mains via capacitor 67. The motor then runs in the other direction.
