Abstract
938,132. Arc welding systems. WILLEM SMIT & CO'S TRANSFORMATORENFABRIEK N.V. Sept. 15, 1961 [Sept. 15, 1960], No. 33249/61. Class 38 (4). In an A.C. arc welding control circuit of the type whereby the electrodes 4, 5 are remote from the welding transformer 1 and wherein adjustment of the transformer is arranged by connecting impedances 27 between the electrodes, rectifiers 28 are connected serially with the electrodes, and means responsive to the direction of half-wave pulses causes adjustment of the transformer. Saturable transformers 8, 9 have one winding 6, 7 connected in series with the electrodes, and another winding 10, 11 connected in parallel with a supply e through oppositely poled rectifiers 12, 13 and condenser shunted relay windings 14, 15, which are maintained energized whether welding current is flaming or not. When the units 27, 28 are connected across the electrodes, one relay is de-energized, hence connecting a supply through contacts 18-21 to a reversible motor 22 controlling the transformer 1. Voltage dependent impedances 29, 30 relieve the rectifiers 12, 13 of excessive voltage peaks.
