Abstract
937,999. Liquefaction of gases. HYDROCARBON RESEARCH Inc. Jan. 13, 1961, No. 1457/61. Class 8(2). Naturally occurring methane is liquefied at source using a relatively small make-up liquefier C drawing from a tank A and discharging to a relatively large liquid methane storage reservoir B which in turn discharges into a heat insulated tanker D, the latter is transported to a distant place where the liquid methane is re-vaporized in a heat exchanger G travened by counterflowing air from a compressor J and prior to the air being separated in a column K into liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen, the latter is fed to the tanker D previously laden with liquid methane and is returned to the methane source where it is discharged through a heat exchanger M in countercurrent heat exchange with compressed methane from tank A, the so liquefied methane then being fed into the tanker D to replace the liquid nitrogen recently withdrawn therefrom. Re-vaporized methane issuing from exchanger G is collected in a holder H.
