Abstract
937,871. Flower holders. A. DECHANGE. Feb. 25, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959; April 20, 1959; April 28, 1959], No. 6578/60. Class 128. A flower holder, which in use is submerged in water in a bowl &c., comprises a base-plate 1, Figs. 2 and 3, carrying a plurality of spikes 2 each having two or more projecting ribs 3 with sharp edges 4, which cut open the stems of cut flowers, as they are impaled on the spikes, and so increase their water-absorbing surfaces. The spikes may project above the ribs. The baseplate may have a downwardly projecting flange 9 over or into which a ring 11 may be fitted from below, which ring is provided, internally, with screwthreads or helical surfaces or ramps 12, which engage screwthreads or lugs 13 on the flange 9 so that the ring 11 can be rotated and brought into contact with the supporting surface of the bowl &c. The base-plate may have a central hole 6 receiving the button 8 of a suction cup 7, which can be pressed into engagement with said supporting surface before the ring 11. The sharp edges may be formed by the sharpened upper edges 16, Figs. 4 and 5, of the thin walls 17 of a grille 15. The points of intersection of the walls 17 then constitute spikes. Some of these walls may be discontinuous. The grille 15 may be connected to or integral with the base-plate. Another grille 19 may be fitted above the spikes 2 or grille 15, to hold the flowers upright. The base-plate may be provided with feet 10.
