In a system in which certain substations are provided with individual keys for calling frequently wanted subscribers, the number of selecting signals is reduced by allocating similar signals to several different subscribers and making the selection dependent also on the identity of the calling subscriber. For this purpose there is employed an analysing circuit which may be common to a number of registers and which, when an individual selecting signal is received, determines the destination of the call in accordance with the identity of the calling line as registered on tens and units relays. Alternating current of graduated strength is employed both for the individual selecting signals and for the digital signals, but the individual signals are sent over only one leg of the line. Instead of the identity of the calling line being sent to the analysing circuit, it may receive a signal which may be the same for a number of sub-stations having the same traffic conditions. Connections are established to the calling and called lines over cross-bar switches operating under the control of markers.
