Abstract
937,046. Aerofoils; hydrofoils. FLUGZEUGWERKE DRESDEN VEB. Nov. 21, 1959, No. 39590/59. Classes 4 and 113. An aero- or hydrodynamic body has a fluid passageway extending transversely therethrough, a trailing edge part of the body which defines the passageway being pivotable about a displaceable axis, and being movable in response to differences in dynamic and/or static conditions on opposed flow surfaces of the body. In the Figure devices 4 and 5 responsive to the dynamic or static pressures on the upper and lower surfaces respectively of a wing are connected by ducts 8, 9, to a spring biased piston 10 operating a reversing switch 15 of a motor 16. The motor shaft 17 works in a nut on the trailing edge part 2, which is supported from the main body of the wing by links 18, 19. The devices 4 and 5 thus alter the slot between wing 1 and part 2, and control the wing boundary layer and the passage of air through the slot, to prevent flow breakaway. Alternatively, a pivotable, slot-forming flap may have its pivotal axis displaced horizontally or vertically by the devices 4 and 5.
