936,959. Handles for kitchen utensils. J. A. HARTLEY. June 17, 1960 [March 20, 1959], No. 9668/59. Class 66. A kitchen utensil such as a pan 1 has a handle comprising an extension 5 and spigot 4 pivotally mounted in cheeks or a bracket 2 on the pan by means of a stud 3 held stationary in the bracket 2 by a key 6, the handle having a spring 8A which actuates a bolt 9 a portion of which enters a bore 16 in the stud 3 to lock the handle rigidly in relation to the pan. The bolt 9 has a knob 10 which projects through a curved slot 11 in the spigot 4, the slot 11 acting as a cam against the knob 10 which is manually operable in order to retract the bolt 9 against the action of the spring 8A. A pin 12 held in the bracket 2 coacts with a recess 13 in the end of the spigot to limit the pivotal arc of the handle. The extension 5 of the handle is preferably of heat-resistant material.
