936,947. Depilatory appliances. R. TAPPER. June 5, 1962, No. 21650/62. Class 81 (2). The needle of an electrical epilator is resiliently mounted so as to be slidable axially under excessive pressure. By this means although the needle will enter a hair follicle without difficulty, it will yield if the operator inadvertently presses it against the skin. In one preferred form the needle 8 is mounted in a holder 7 which is slidable within a metal tube 5a against a helical spring 6. The needle carrier 5 is screwed into an insulating block 3 to which forceps blades 1, 2 are attached and these may be connected in the operating circuit by a contact 11 which is closed, to energize the needle, when the blades are squeezed together. This completes the supply circuit to the assembly 17 which incorporates either a multivibrator or a phaseshift oscillator, using transistors, designed to give an approximately square-wave output of the order of one cycle per second. The same type of resiliently mounted needle may be used in a self-contained, battery-energized epilator.
