Abstract

936,648. Electric fluid heaters. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 17, 1960 [April 25, 1959]; No. 14181/59. Class 39 (3). Air or other fluid entering the inlet 17 of a valve 18 is divided into two streams one of which passes through a heating chamber 1 to an outlet member 5 and the other passes directly to the outlet so that by varying the proportions of fluid in the two streams, the final outlet temperature can be varied while maintaining a constant flow of fluid. Fluid entering the inlet 6 of the heating chamber 1 follows a helical path between the turns of a metal strip 8 wound on a sleeve 2 and then passes through perforations 7 to the interior of the sleeve which contains a metal-sheathed electric heating element 3 wound in a helix so that the fluid is encouraged to follow a helical path to the outlet member 5. The apparatus is shown in use in apparatus as described in Specification 805,976 for heating a thermoplastic edging strip 10 during its application to a length of belting.
