Abstract
936,265. Turbine rotors. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 22, 1961 [Dec. 19, 1960], No. 41749/61. Class 110 (3). A turbine rotor wheel consists of a solid disc having a hub and a rim connected by a radially corrugated annular web formed by flat sectorshaped portions each being at an obtuse angle to its neighbour. A one-piece cast turbine wheel 10 has integral blades 16, a circular hub 12 and an annular continuous rim 14. The annular web portion 18 has a radial taper decreasing outwardly from the hub. The portion 20 of the web is corrugated to provide a number of flat sector-shaped web portions 22 which are at an obtuse angle to each other. The corrugations increase in depth in the radially outward direction. The construction reduces thermal stresses in the rim 14 and may also be applied to unbladed spacer discs.
