Abstract
935,518. Cartridge-operated fastener-driving tools. SARMI S.A. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS DE RECHERCHES MINIERES ET INDUSTRIELLES. March 30, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 11620/61. Class 119. In a cartridge-operated fastener-driving tool a washer-carrier 7 is slidably mounted on the forward end of the barrel 1 and is adapted to be thrust forward against the structure receiving the fastener by the exhaust gases escaping through vents 2 in the forward portion of the barrel. In one form the carrier 7, Fig. 1, is rigid with a sleeve 8 urged forwardly by a spring 9 located between a shatter guard sleeve 5 and a tube 4 rigid with the barrel carrying block 3. A flange 1a on the end of the barrel limits the forward movement of the carrier 7. The exhaust gases from the vents 2 enter the annular space between the barrel 1 and tube 4 and exert pressure on the carrier 7. In another form the washer carrier 16 is formed with a radial recess for a retaining ball 17 which partially extends into an annular groove 19 in the barrel 11, which groove permits relative axial displacement between the barrel and carrier. The vents 12 lead to an annular space between the barrel 11 and splinter guard sleeve 14 so that the gases can press the carrier 16 forwardly.
