934,924. Manhole frames. BAINBRIDGE BROS. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Jan. 4, 1962 [Jan. 4, 1961], No. 316/61. Class 107. A manhole for giving access to lofts and roof spaces comprises a sheet metal frame 1-4 with internal flanges 5 for supporting a sheet metal cover 13 and external flanges 12 which are located against the underside of joists 11 adjoining the manhole opening. The upper edges of sides 1 and 3 are bent over metal strips 8. The ends 9 of these strips extending above the joists 11 are twisted through 90 degrees and tapped to receive thumbscrews 10 which are tightened to clamp the joists 11 between the ends 9 and flanges 12. Plaster boards fitted beneath the flanges 12 are covered with plaster of such depth as to form a flush face with the underside of the flanges 5.
