Abstract

934,906. Cleaning tanks. ROBERT HUDSON Ltd. July 16, 1962 [July 15, 1961], No. 25721/61. Class 138 (1). In a method of cleaning sludge or similar tanks of their sludge deposit one or more squeegee devices mounted on a supporting framework and operated by mechanical means is or are traversed along the tank bottom to sweep the sludge into a gulley provided in the tank and/or to an outlet at an end of the tank. A transverse travelling beam 8 extending the width of the tank and carrying at its rear edge a squeegee 9 is pivotally mounted at 7 and carried by a pair of trolleys 6 which are guided by a pair of rails 4 extending substantially the whole length of the tank, the squeegee 9 being so arranged that it can sweep the whole width of the tank bottom in one traverse. So that the squeegee 9 may not remain in contact with the tank bottom on the reverse traverse the beam 8 is arranged to pivot about the point 7 by toggle linkages 17 on each trolley 6 attached to a double bell-crank lever 20 by an adjustable rod 19; the lever 20 being pivotally mounted at 21 and each pivotally connected to a pull/push rod extending towards the centre of the beam. The trolley is moved by an endless cable 11 (not shown), and the pull on the cable 11 rocks the beam 8 and so either lowers the squeegee 9 or raises it, depending on the direction of pull.
