Abstract

Diepoxy acetals having the general formula <FORM:0934346/IV(a)/1> in which R is hydrogen or a methyl radical and R1 is a methyl radical, may be cured by reaction with polybasic acids or anhydrides. Other epoxides and/or polyols may be added to the diepoxy-acetal acid or anhydride mixture to produce cross-linked polymers. Examples are given of the preparation of resins from the diepoxide of the formula given above in which R and R1 are methyl groups, phthalic anhydride and ethylene glycol. Specification 887,593 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises diepoxy acetals having the general formula <FORM:0934346/IV(a)/1> in which R is hydrogen or a methyl radical and R1 is a methyl radical. They may be produced by condensing in the presence of an acid catalyst pentaerythritol and 2-methyl-D 4-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde or a mixture of tetrahydrobenzaldehyde and 2-methyl-D 4-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde and epoxidising the reaction product with peracetic acid. Specification 887,593 is referred to.
