Abstract

933,209. Filters; coalescing elements. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Sept. 6, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 33001/60. Class 46. Liquid (e.g. oil) containing dispersed contaminating liquid (e.g. water), and, optionally, solids, is introduced through inlets (not shown) to an annular space 9 whence it flows outwardly through an annular pleated coalescing element 6 to an annular space 12 where the oil moves downwards and coalesced water is deposited on the casing bottom. The oil now moves upwards into an annular space 10 divided from space 9 by a frusto-conical partition 8 and flows inwards, either through a perforated wall where any remaining water droplets are finally separated, or, as shown, through an annular pleated filter element 3, (where solids are separated) to outlets 23. The changes of direction promote separation. A sight gauge 28 and drain cock 29 are provided; also an air vent (not shown).
