Abstract

Acetylene is removed from a mixture of acetylene and vinyl fluoride (obtained, e.g. by reaction between acetylene and hydrogen fluoride) by adding hydrogen chloride to the mixture in amount equivalent to the acetylene present, and converting to vinyl chloride in the presence of a mercuric chloride catalyst; the vinyl fluoride and vinyl chloride may then be separated by fractional distillation.
