Abstract

A filter tip for a cigarette comprises a cylindrical envelope containing between 60 and 400 milligrams of a zeolite material capable of acting as a molecular sieve by adsorbing molecules under a given size from cigarette smoke, the molecular sieve material being in particles of a size between 20 and 100 mesh and having a water content of from 10 to 25%. Preferably the particle size of the molecular sieve material is between 40 and 80 mesh and the water content between 12 and 16%. The molecular sieve material may be a sodium alumino silicate having a pore diameter of 10 or 4 , or may be a calckum alumino silicate having a pore diameter of 5 . The molecular sieve material may be dispersed throughout a tow of cellulose acetate filaments enclosed by the cylindrical envelope, or may be dispersed throughout a filter formed of folded paper, or dispersed among strands of cut tobacco material enclosed by the cylindrical envelope.
