Abstract

932,486. Fishing reels. S. ALLCOCK & CO. Ltd. Jan. 29, 1962 [June 3, 1961], No. 20117/61. Class 48. In a fishing reel of the stationary spool type a rotatable flyer drum 34 has a radial peg 36 engaging the line 12 for winding which is retractable on operation of a trigger 31 for casting. The trigger pivots on a cylindrical nut 32 in the reel casing and is generally parallel to a reel stem 29 and extends towards a foot 30. The trigger acts on a spring-loaded spindle 17 to move the drum 34 away from the spool 11 which is mounted on a boss 40 of a circular plate 10 and held stationary by a variable friction device 28. The movement of the drum 34 allows a spring-loaded slide 37 supporting the peg 36 and attached to the drum 34 to move radially inwardly of the drum off the end of the boss 40. With the trigger in the operated position the line is clamped between the drum 34 and a housing 13 and on release of the trigger the drum moves towards the spool 11 and the slide remains retracted and positioned between the drum and the end of the boss 40. To extend the slide and peg the reel handle 25 is rotated causing, through gears 21 and 23, the drum and slide 37 to rotate so that a cam surface 41 on the end of boss 40 forces the slide to a position resting on boss 40 and the spindle spring 22 returns the drum 34 to a position against the boss. The gear-wheel 21 is slidably mounted on a square section portion of spindle 17 and is forced against the plate 10 by the spring 22. A pawl and ratchet mechanism (not shown) is provided for the winding gear.
