Abstract

932,212. Cathode-ray tubes. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Feb. 22, 1961 [Feb. 22, 1960], No. 6137/60. Class 39 (1). An electronic display tube includes a " cold " emissive layer 5, e.g. of MgO 2 , on an electrode support 1, one or more mesh electrodes 6, 9 for producing a uniform emission from the layer 5, and two arrays of mutually perpendicular control electrodes 12, 18 which are selectively energized to allow electrons to pass in the vicinity of intersection points to excite the luminescent screen 24. The electrostatic field in the vicinity of an intersection point also serves to focus the electrons. The arrays 12, 18 are connected by resistors 13, 19 to common leads 14, 20 and are normally at cathode potentials. Selected electrodes, or adjacent pairs of electrodes, of the arrays are raised to a positive potential by selector means 16, 22 which may comprise semi-conductor switches or electron beam switches incorporated inside the envelope. Resistors 13, 19 also may be inside the envelope.
