Abstract
932,044. Thermocouples. AJAX MAGNETHERMIC CORPORATION. Sept. 26, 1961, No. 34373/61. Class 37. [Also in Groups XXXVIII and XL (b)] A thermocouple unit has the hot junction 14 (Fig. 3) bonded to the back of a metal disc 18 assembled on the end of a cylindrical housing 11, so that when the housing is applied to a hot body a cavity 17 is formed which prevents the surfaces of the hot body and the disc 18 from becoming oxidised or decontaminated. The junction 14 is heated by conduction through the disc 18, by direct radiation from the hot body and by reradiation from the curved, preferably parabolic, surface of the disc 18. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown) the disc 18 is flat and the cavity 17 is very shallow.
