Abstract
931,915. Modified polymers of conjugated diolefins. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. Oct. 28, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959; Nov. 4, 1959], No. 37187/60. Class 2(6) A modified polymer is the reaction product of (1) a conjugated diolefin polymer with (2) 10 to 170% based on the diolefin polymer of a polyhalogeno-cyclopentadiene, the halogen being chlorine, bromine, fluorine or mixtures thereof. Specified diolefin polymers are those from butadiene, isoprene, piperylene, 2-3-dimethylbutadiene, 1-phenyl-butadiene, chloroprene, their mixtures and their mixtures with styrene, alphamethyl styrene, vinyl naphthalene, chlorostyrene, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl butyrate, acrylic acid esters, methacrylic acid esters, acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile. Preferred cyclopentadienes are hexachloro- and methylpentachloro-cyclopentadienes-others are listed. The reaction may take place in the presence of an inert solvent and an acid-fixing substance, e.g. 0À1 to 15 % of the cyclopentadiene, of an epoxy compound, e.g. butadiene-dioxide, 2À3-dimethyl butadiene dioxide cyclohexene oxide, styrene oxide, vinyl toluene oxide, the diglycide ethers of glycol, of propane-1À2-diol, butane-1À4-diol, hexane-1À6-diol, the triglyceride ethers of glycerine and 1À1À1-trimethylol propane, phenoxy propylene oxide, 4À4<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxydiphenyl propane glycide ether, resorcinol diglycide ether, hydroquinone diglycide ether and cresol glycide ether, or, e.g. 0À1 to 10% of the cyclopentadiene of lithium, zinc or calcium naphthenates, magnesium or calcium stearate, sodium bicarbonate and sodium or potassium acetate. Specified solvents are benzine hydrocarbons, alkyl aromatic substances, glycols and their derivatives, ketones, esters and chlorinated aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbons. The reaction product dissolved in such as solvent may be used as a lacquer, known naphthenate driers being also present. Specification 931,914 is referred to.
