Abstract

931,805. Cameras for aerial photography. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1960 [March 6, 1959], No. 7815/59. Class 98 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] In a motor-driven camera for aerial photography, the film is driven by a sun wheel forming the output member of a differential coupling including an input sun member driven at constant speed by the motor and coupled to the output member by at least one planetary member on a carrier, the latter deriving variable rotary movement from the input member through a cam mechanism including a gear and pin-and-slot connection to the carrier to produce sinusoidal variation in the output so that the film-drive speed has the appropriate value, when the shutter is open, to compensate for image movement. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the input sprocket 12 drives, via idler gear 13, a sun wheel 16 whose larger diameter sprocket drives wheel 24, whereby the cage 20 (21) is oscillated by means of a slot 22 and eccentric pin 23, and whose smaller diameter sprocket is bevelled and engages a pair of bevelled wheels 18, 19, rotatably mounted on and rotatable with the cage 20 and thus transmitting a sinusoidallyvarying speed of rotation to the output sun wheel 17. This is geared to the film-drive sprocket 25 so that a predetermined speed of film movement can be obtained at the instant of exposure according to what part of the cycle is coincident with the opening of the shutter. The amplitude of variation in the drive to wheel 17 may be varied by setting pin 23 at various radial distances from the centre of wheel 24, and the direction of the slot 22 is so chosen that the speed of rotation of the output wheel 17 has a particular value when the shutter is open, the shutter mechanism (not shown) being operated directly by the rotation of input sprocket 12. The shutter may be of the slotted bling type and its motion may be parallel with or transverse to the direction of film feed.
