Abstract
931,456. Disc brakes. D.B.A. S.A. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 11, 1959], No. 42545/60. Class 103(1). A friction pad for a fluid pressure-operated spot-type disc brake has a sheet metal backing plate formed to anchor the pad by abutment against portion of the mechanism and has means for detachably securing the pad to an element of the applying mechanism. A rotatable disc 2 is straddled by yoke members 8, 9 spaced by a brake cylinder 14 and a brace member 12. A U-shaped supporting plate 4 is axially free between the yokes 8, 9 and is restrained from circumferential rattling by spring strips 60, 62 clipped to the plate 4. The friction linings are bonded or riveted to sheet steel backing plates flanged at their edges and having terminal fingers 40 which engage slots 42, 52 in the plate 4 to anchor the friction pads against braking thrust. The movable pad 28 has fingers 70 and a button 76; formed from its surface, to engage a spring clip 74 which connects the pad to an extension 24 of the brake piston 20. The fixed pad 38 is formed with two pairs of tongues 86, 88 to receive resilient fasteners 90, 92 having rectangular openings through which passes the brace member 12. The friction lining of the movable pad is offset with respect to the centre of thrust of the piston 20, and the lining of the fixed pad is divided at the centre to promote even wear.- Replacement of the two pads in facilitated by removal of the yoke member 8 and circumferential withdrawal of the pads. New pads may be fitted by similar movement, the movable pad spring clip 74 engaging a flat 72 on the extension 24 to ensure the correct angular location of the piston 20 necessitated by the automatic adjusting means 54 of the type described in Specification 931,455.
