A fully enclosed dynamo-electric machine 1 having a commutator or slip rings has located close to either of the latter a dividing interior partition wall 2 which carries filter means. As shown, the means are filters 3 which are to retain carbon dust, can be slid out and have either wet or dry elements, or can be electrostatic filters. The invention is applicable to large D.C. machines and variable-speed A.C. commutator motors.
