Abstract
930,472. Pressing glass; compositions. BAUSCH & LOMB Inc. Jan. 5, 1961 [Jan. 7, 1960], No. 482/61. Class 56. A glass article is made by heating a mass of glass particles of varying sizes to a temperature of at least 300‹ C. but below the softening point of the glass and pressing the mass at a pressure between 10,000 and 50,000 pounds per square inch for a sufficient time for the smaller porticles to close the gaps between the larger to bond the particles into a cohesive body. The chosen temperature is preferably at least 50‹ C. below the softening temperature. Data are given of suitable particle sizes, temperatures and pressures to produce bodies of the following compositions : Specification 913,175 is referred to.
